Japan Producer Inflation Hits Highest Since March 2023

Japan’s producer prices rose 7.1% year-on-year in June 2026, quickening from an upwardly revised 6.6% gain in May and surpassing market expectations of a 6.8% increase. This was the fastest annual rise since March 2023, driven by persistent cost pressures, particularly higher energy prices stemming from supply chain disruptions related to the war in Iran. On a monthly basis, producer prices increased 0.4%, slowing from the upwardly revised 1.1% rise in May and marking the weakest monthly growth in four months.
