UK Factory Orders Remain Weak in July: CBI

The survey conducted by the Confederation of British Industry (CBI) indicated a slight improvement in the UK's total order book balance, which increased to -30 in July 2025 from -33 in June. This still fell below market expectations of -28. The data underscores a persistent weakness in the manufacturing sector, as British companies have faced a sharp contraction in orders for 36 consecutive months. Additionally, the survey pointed to a rise in anticipated average selling prices, with the balance climbing to +21 from +19 in June. "The manufacturing landscape in the UK remains tough, with many businesses encountering subdued and unpredictable demand," commented Ben Jones, the lead economist at the CBI.
