Indonesia Motorbike Sales Rebound in August

In August 2025, motorbike sales in Indonesia experienced a slight uptick, increasing by 0.7% compared to the previous year, totaling 578,041 units. This growth represents a recovery from the 2.0% decline observed in July, marking the first annual rise in four months. This development follows a total of 100 basis points cut in interest rates implemented by the central bank since the beginning of the year. Despite the modest recovery in August, the cumulative motorbike sales for the first eight months of 2025 declined by 1.7% compared to the same timeframe in 2024. Moreover, on a month-to-month basis, sales saw a decline of 1.5% in August, which contrasts sharply with the 15.3% increase seen in July. For the year 2024, annual motorbike sales rose by 1.5%, totaling 6.3 million units, aligning with the Association of Indonesian Motorcycle Industry's (AISI) forecast of 6.2 to 6.5 million units. In 2025, AISI has set a target range of 6.4 to 6.7 million units. However, the association indicated last month that it might revisit its annual forecast if the downward pressure on sales continues in the upcoming months.
