Swedish Household Spending Drops 0.9% in October

In October 2025, household spending in Sweden declined by 0.9% compared to the previous month. This decrease follows an upwardly revised increase of 0.5% in September. A key factor in this downturn was reduced expenditures on transport, retail trade, and motor vehicle services, which dropped by 2.4%, worsening from the 1.2% decline observed in September. Additionally, spending in the areas of recreation and culture, along with goods and services, contracted by 0.9%, compared to a significant increase of 2.7% in September. Expenditures on housing, electricity, gas, and heating saw a slight drop of 0.1%, following a flat performance in the previous month. In contrast, spending on food and beverages remained stable after experiencing a 0.4% rise in September. Annually, household consumption continued to grow, albeit at a slower pace of 2.3%, down from a revised upward growth of 3.6% in the month prior.
