Retail sales in Norway increased by 1.1% month-on-month in January 2026, rebounding from a downwardly revised 0.6% decline in December. Nearly all categories returned to growth, including non-specialized stores (0.2% vs -0.5% in December), food and beverages (1.4% vs -1.3%), and automotive fuel (4.5% vs -4.1%). Sales also picked up for ICT equipment (17.9% vs -5.7%), other household equipment (2.6% vs -2.3%), and cultural and recreational goods (2.6% vs -1.6%). By contrast, growth in sales outside of stores and stalls slowed to 0.2%, down from 1.6% in December. On an annual basis, retail sales rose 4.1% in January, quickening from a 3.2% increase in the previous month.
