Hungary Jobless Rate Rises in November-January

Hungary’s unemployment rate rose to 4.6% in November–January 2026, up from 4.3% a year earlier, reaching its highest level since August–October 2025. The number of unemployed increased by 11 thousand year-on-year to 223.8 thousand. Of these, 122.3 thousand were men, corresponding to an unemployment rate of 4.8%, while 101.5 thousand were women, with a rate of 4.5%.

The average job search duration stood at 12.2 months. Among the unemployed, 37.1% had been seeking work for less than three months, whereas 35.8% had been out of work for at least a year.

At the same time, total employment fell by 68.4 thousand to 4.628 million. Employment among men declined by 41 thousand to 2.449 million, while employment among women decreased by 27.4 thousand to 2.179 million.
