Greece Retail Sales Growth at 8-Month High

Retail sales in Greece rose 5.1% year-on-year in December 2025, accelerating from an upwardly revised 0.7% increase in November and reaching their highest level since April. The overall improvement was driven by stronger activity in several key categories, including supermarkets (7.2% vs 1.1% in November), department stores (6.8% vs 0.1%), pharmaceutical products and cosmetics (10.3% vs 3.9%), books, stationery, and other goods (8.6% vs 7.8%), as well as furniture, electrical goods, and household equipment (11.7% vs 9.5%).

Trade also rebounded in clothing and footwear (1.2% vs -1%) and in food, beverages, and tobacco (3.3% vs -0.6%). By contrast, sales of automotive fuels fell (-1.2% vs 7.1%). On a monthly basis, retail sales surged 10.4% in December, reversing a 1% decline recorded in the previous month.
