Montenegro’s Trade Deficit Narrows in January

Montenegro’s trade deficit narrowed to €175.1 million in January 2026, from €200.8 million in the same month a year earlier. The improvement was driven by a 16.3% decline in imports, which fell to €204.3 million, mainly due to reduced purchases of machinery and transport equipment (-20.4%), manufactured goods (-25.0%), chemicals (-17.4%), and food and live animals (-8.7%). Exports also decreased, dropping 32.7% to €29.2 million, reflecting sharp contractions in mineral fuels, lubricants and related materials (-44.2%), crude materials (-42.8%), machinery and transport equipment (-47.3%), and food and live animals (-11.0%).
