Atlanta Fed GDPNow Trims Q1 2026 U.S. Growth Estimate to 3.0%

The Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta’s GDPNow model has slightly downgraded its estimate for U.S. economic growth in the first quarter of 2026, with the real GDP growth projection easing to 3.0% from a previous 3.1%. The latest update was released on 27 February 2026.

The revision suggests that while momentum in the U.S. economy remains solid, growth expectations have been modestly recalibrated. The near-flat adjustment underscores a broadly stable outlook, indicating that incoming data have not materially shifted the growth narrative for the opening quarter of the year.

Market participants often monitor the Atlanta Fed’s GDPNow model as a high-frequency gauge of economic activity. The move from 3.1% to 3.0% for the first quarter of 2026 is likely to be interpreted as a fine-tuning rather than a directional change, reinforcing expectations of steady, if slightly slower, expansion.
