China Imports Hit Record High

China’s imports surged 31.0% year-on-year to a record $313.66 billion in September 2026, up from a 28.2% increase in the previous month and well above market expectations of 24.5%. This marked the fastest annual growth since June, driven by strong demand for AI-related infrastructure and seasonal restocking ahead of and during the Golden Week holiday. Over the first nine months of the year, imports were up 27.5% compared with the same period in 2025.
