Taiwan has announced its "Ten Major AI Infrastructure Projects" initiative, with a target to generate more than TWD 15 trillion in economic value by 2040. This endeavor aims to position Taiwan as a leading figure in the global AI landscape. According to Premier Cho Jung-tai, Taiwan plans to capitalize on its robust information and communications technology sector and its world-renowned semiconductor industry to transform into a "smart technology island" and a notable global AI influencer.
The initiative concentrates on three fundamental technologies: silicon photonics, quantum technology, and AI robotics, with key objectives that include developing sovereign AI capabilities, expanding computational infrastructure, and integrating AI across various industries. To fuel AI-driven innovation and talent, the government intends to invest over TWD 100 billion in venture capital. Additionally, the initiative aspires to generate 500,000 jobs and establish three AI research labs of international standing.
