Luxembourg Trade Gap Widens in August

In August 2025, Luxembourg's trade deficit expanded to EUR 0.87 billion, up from EUR 0.59 billion in the corresponding month of the previous year, due to imports surpassing exports. Imports surged by 17.7% compared to the previous year, reaching EUR 1.93 billion, primarily driven by significant increases in the purchase of transport equipment (29.7%), non-edible crude materials as well as oils, fats, and waxes (27.3%), and mineral fuels and lubricants (27%). In contrast, exports rose modestly by 1% to EUR 1.06 billion, bolstered by greater shipments of non-edible crude materials, oils, fats, and waxes (19%) and beverages and tobacco products (13.6%).
