US Core Inflation Rate Slightly Below Forecasts

In September 2025, the United States experienced an annual core consumer price inflation rate of 3%, a slight decrease from the 3.1% rate observed in the preceding two months. This figure narrowly missed analysts' predictions, which anticipated the rate would remain at 3.1%. The shelter index, a significant contributor to the overall index, saw a yearly increase of 3.6%, maintaining the same growth rate as the previous month. Other components, such as used cars and trucks, observed a lower increase of 5.1% compared to 6% in August, and medical care costs increased by 3.3%, slightly down from 3.4%. On a month-to-month basis, core consumer prices rose by 0.2% in September, a deceleration from the 0.3% rises noted in both August and July, and slightly below market expectations of a 0.3% rise.
