Mexico’s unemployment rate remained at 2.7% in January 2026, unchanged from a year earlier and slightly above the 2.6% forecast, with a total of 1.7 million people unemployed. The overall rate was the same for men and women, though trends diverged by gender: the unemployment rate for women declined by 0.2 percentage points over the year, while that for men increased by 0.1 percentage point.
Among the unemployed, 12.6% had not completed secondary education, while 87.2% held at least a secondary qualification or higher. By age group, the largest share of unemployed persons (43.7%) was between 25 and 44 years old, followed by those aged 15 to 24, who accounted for 32.8%.
In terms of job search duration, 50.6% of the unemployed had been without work for one month or less, and 31.1% for between one and three months.
