The Baltic Exchange’s dry bulk index, which tracks freight rates for vessels transporting dry commodities, declined for a second consecutive session on Thursday, slipping 0.2% to 2,117 points, weighed down by weakness in the larger vessel segment. The capesize index, reflecting rates for ships that typically carry about 150,000 tons of cargo such as iron ore and coal, fell 2.5% to 3,051 points. In contrast, the panamax index, covering vessels that usually transport 60,000 to 70,000 tons of coal or grain, climbed 1.4% to 1,916 points, while the supramax index rose 3.5% to 1,299 points.
