Speculative Bets Against Pound Deepen as CFTC Net Shorts Widen to -57.1K

Speculative traders have increased their bearish positions on the British pound, with CFTC GBP speculative net positions falling further into negative territory, according to data updated on 27 February 2026.

The net position deteriorated from -42.4K previously to -57.1K, indicating a larger net short stance against sterling. A more negative reading reflects that futures traders and large speculators are holding a greater number of short positions than long positions in GBP.

The shift suggests growing pessimism or hedging activity toward the UK currency in global markets, as participants scale up bets on further weakness in the pound relative to other major currencies.
