Colombo’s inflation rate in May 2026 rose to 5.5%, up slightly from 5.4% in April, reaching its highest level since February 2024. The increase was driven primarily by non-food prices, which accelerated to 7.8% from 6.8% in the previous month, reflecting higher costs in transport, housing and utilities, restaurants and hotels, education, miscellaneous goods, health, and household equipment. In contrast, food inflation decelerated sharply, dropping to 0.9% from 2.8%. On a month-on-month basis, consumer prices climbed 0.9% in May, slowing from the 3% increase recorded in April.
