New Zealand Dollar Pinned Near Multi-Month Lows

The New Zealand dollar weakened to $0.560, hovering near its lowest level since November 2025, as a sluggish domestic economy and widening interest rate differentials with major economies weighed on the currency. The kiwi is under more intense pressure than some peers because New Zealand’s recovery remains fragile. While the Reserve Bank has raised interest rates at its two policy meetings so far this year, the official cash rate still lags behind those of several overseas counterparts, reducing the appeal of New Zealand dollar-denominated assets for international investors.

At the same time, escalating tensions in the Middle East are putting additional strain on the currencies of economies vulnerable to higher energy costs. Political uncertainty ahead of New Zealand’s general election in November is further clouding the economic outlook, adding to negative sentiment toward the kiwi.
