The number of individuals classified as unemployed increased by 71,000, bringing the total to 7.237 million, while employment experienced a significant drop of 696,000, decreasing to 163.273 million. The labor force participation rate fell by 0.2 percentage points to 62.4%, matching the two-year low last seen in February, and the employment-population ratio decreased by 0.3 percentage points to 59.7%, the lowest since January 2022.
