North Rhine-Westphalia Inflation Eases to 1.8% in February, Down from 2.0% in January

Consumer price inflation in Germany’s largest state, North Rhine-Westphalia, edged lower in February 2026, signaling a modest easing of price pressures at the start of the year. The state’s Consumer Price Index (CPI) rose 1.8% year-over-year in February, down from a 2.0% annual increase recorded in January 2026.

The data, updated on 27 February 2026, are measured on a year-over-year basis, comparing each month with the same month a year earlier. January’s 2.0% figure reflected the change in prices versus January of the previous year, while February’s 1.8% reading compares prices to February a year ago.

The slowdown suggests that inflationary momentum in North Rhine-Westphalia is cooling slightly, which could be an early indicator of a broader easing in consumer price growth across Germany if similar trends emerge in other regions.
