Employment figures remained mostly stable in May, with a marginal increase of 8,800 jobs. This was due to an uptick in full-time employment by 58,000 positions, which was nearly counterbalanced by a decline of 49,000 part-time jobs. Since the robust job growth observed late last year, employment expansion has slowed since January. For the core working-age group of 25 to 54 years, employment rose for women by 42,000, while it decreased for men by 31,000. There was minimal change in employment among younger workers and senior citizens. The employment landscape showed gains in sectors such as wholesale/retail trade, recreation, finance, and utilities. Conversely, there were job losses in public administration, food services, transportation, and support services. Regionally, British Columbia, Nova Scotia, and New Brunswick experienced job growth, whereas Quebec, Manitoba, and Prince Edward Island saw declines. Other areas showed little change.
