Brazil’s Consumer Confidence Slips in August, Reversing Recent Gains

Brazilian consumer confidence weakened in August 2026, interrupting its previous upward trajectory, according to data updated on 25 August 2026 by Fundação Getulio Vargas (FGV). The FGV Consumer Confidence Index fell to 84.7 points in August from 88.3 points in July 2026.

The decline suggests a deterioration in household sentiment after July’s stronger reading, with the index remaining below the 100-point threshold that typically separates pessimism from optimism. The latest figures indicate that Brazilian consumers are more cautious about current conditions and the short-term outlook as the third quarter of 2026 gets under way.
