Retail sales in Canada are projected to have increased by 1.6% in June 2025 compared to the previous month, as per preliminary estimates. This increase would mark the most substantial rise in turnover since December. Meanwhile, retail turnover decreased by 1.1% in May, aligning with the preliminary forecasts. The most significant decline in retail sales was observed in the motor vehicle and parts dealers sector, which dropped by 3.6%. This was mainly due to a decline in new car dealers' sales, which decreased by 4.6% for the first time since February. However, within the motor vehicle and parts dealers subsector, automotive parts, accessories, and tire retailers saw an increase of 1.7% in sales. Additionally, sales at gasoline stations and fuel vendors declined by 1.4% for the third consecutive month, with a 2.1% fall in volume terms.
