The Baltic Exchange's dry bulk index, which monitors the freight rates for ships carrying dry commodities, saw an uptick for the second consecutive session on Monday, increasing by approximately 1% to reach 1,780 points. The capesize index, responsible for transporting large cargoes such as iron ore and coal, typically around 150,000 tons, ended its two-day decline, rising by 1.7% to 2,626 points. In contrast, the supramax index experienced a gain of 9 points, or 0.9%, bringing it to 1,035 points. On the other hand, the panamax index, usually associated with carrying between 60,000 and 70,000 tons of coal or grain, remained steady at 1,612 points.
