Croatia January Inflation Confirmed at 3.4%

Croatia’s annual inflation rate edged up to 3.4% in January 2026 from 3.3% in December 2025, matching preliminary estimates. The increase was driven mainly by higher prices for alcoholic beverages and tobacco (7.5% vs 4.6% in December) and housing and utilities (10.1% vs 8.4%).

Price dynamics varied across other categories. Clothing and footwear returned to inflation, with prices rising 0.8% after a 1.0% decline in the previous month, while deflation in transport moderated (-0.3% vs -1.8%).

At the same time, inflation slowed for several components, including food and non-alcoholic beverages (2.1% vs 2.8%), communication (2.4% vs 5.3%), recreation and culture (3.3% vs 3.4%), restaurants and hotels (6.8% vs 7.8%), and health (4.1% vs 4.3%). Prices fell in furnishings, household equipment, and routine household maintenance (-0.9% vs +0.4%) as well as in education (-1.6% vs -1.2%).

On a monthly basis, consumer prices rose 0.3% in January, rebounding from a 0.4% decline in December. In EU-harmonised terms, the annual inflation rate eased slightly to 3.6% from 3.8%.
