Saudi Arabia Trade Surplus Smallest in 5 Months

Saudi Arabia’s trade surplus narrowed to SAR 17.3 billion in June 2026, down from SAR 19.2 billion a year earlier, marking the smallest surplus since January as exports declined more sharply than imports. Total exports fell 4.5% year-on-year to SAR 87.8 billion, the lowest level in five years, largely due to a 2.3% drop in oil exports, which accounted for 72.0% of total exports.

Non-oil exports also weakened, falling 11.4%, weighed down by a 12.8% decline in exports of plastics, rubber, and related products, which made up 20.7% of non-oil exports. Japan was the top destination for Saudi exports, taking 13.2% of the total, followed by South Korea (11.5%) and China (9.4%).

On the import side, Saudi Arabia’s purchases from abroad decreased 3.0% to SAR 70.4 billion, a three-month low, mainly reflecting a steep 20.4% drop in imports of machinery, electrical equipment, and parts. China remained the leading supplier, accounting for 22.0% of total imports, with Switzerland and the United States following at 8.4% and 8.3%, respectively.
