In February 2025, Colombia's trade deficit expanded to USD 1.546 billion, compared to a deficit of USD 1.01 billion in the same period the previous year. This increase resulted from a rise in imports coupled with a decline in exports. Imports surged by 10.5% year-on-year, reaching USD 5.3789 billion—marking the eighth consecutive month of growth—primarily driven by a significant 51.7% increase in purchases of fuels and products from the extractive industry. Conversely, exports experienced a slight decline of 0.8% year-on-year, totaling USD 3.7803 billion. This was largely attributed to a substantial 17.5% decrease in international sales within the fuels and extractive industry products sector.
