Australia’s Construction Slump Eases as Q4 Data Show Near-Stabilisation

Australia’s construction sector showed signs of stabilising at the end of 2025, with the volume of construction work done easing to a marginal decline in the fourth quarter. According to data updated on 25 February 2026, construction work done fell by 0.1% quarter-over-quarter in Q4 2025, a notable moderation from the 0.7% quarter-over-quarter drop recorded in the third quarter of 2025.

On a quarter-over-quarter basis, the latest figures indicate that the downturn in activity is losing momentum. While construction output remains in negative territory, the smaller contraction suggests that conditions in the sector may be beginning to stabilise after a weaker third quarter. The “actual” fourth-quarter reading reflects the change from Q3 to Q4 2025, compared with the “previous” measure, which captured the change from Q2 to Q3 2025.
