Austria’s Manufacturing PMI Climbs to 49.4 in February, Signalling Easing Contraction

Bank Austria’s Manufacturing Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI) for Austria rose to 49.4 in February 2026, up from 47.2 in January 2026, according to data updated on 25 February 2026.

While the index remains just below the 50-point threshold that separates expansion from contraction, the move marks a notable improvement in operating conditions for Austrian manufacturers. The February reading suggests that the sector’s downturn is easing, with business conditions tightening at a slower pace than at the start of the year.

The rise from January’s level indicates growing stabilization in industrial activity and may hint at improving demand or reduced pressures within supply chains, though the sector has yet to return to outright growth territory.
