Sensex Finishes Higher

India’s BSE Sensex reversed early losses on Tuesday to finish about 0.4% higher at 77,656, recovering from the previous session’s weakness as financial and IT stocks rebounded. Sentiment was also supported by lower crude oil prices, while the latest US measures to increase economic pressure on Iran turned out to be less severe than markets had anticipated.

Indian equities continued to draw overseas interest, with foreign investors having purchased more than $2.5 billion in domestic stocks so far this month. Market participants now look ahead to Nvidia’s earnings report on Wednesday and Fed Chair Kevin Warsh’s speech at Jackson Hole on Friday for further signals on the monetary policy outlook.

IndiGo was the top gainer on the index, advancing 2.1%, followed by Adani Ports, Infosys, Trent, Titan, SBI, Mahindra & Mahindra, Tech Mahindra and L&T, which rose between 0.8% and 1.2%. On the downside, Eternal (-0.9%), HCL Tech (-0.7%) and Power Grid (-0.5%) were the session’s biggest laggards.
