Senegal Inflation Picks Up to 1.4%

Senegal’s annual inflation rate quickened to 1.4% in March 2026, up from 0.8% in February, reaching its highest level in three months. The main driver was a sharp acceleration in prices for food and non-alcoholic beverages (1.7% vs 0.2% in February). Price growth also strengthened for alcohol, tobacco and narcotics (10.7% vs 8.7%), health (1.9% vs 1.5%), transport (0.4% vs 0.2%), and personal care and miscellaneous goods (2.6% vs 2.3%).

By contrast, inflation eased in several categories, including housing and utilities (0.2% vs 0.7%), furniture and household equipment (1.5% vs 1.8%), clothing and footwear (0.7% vs 0.8%), and recreation, sport and culture (1.2% vs 1.3%). Prices for information and communication services remained in deflation, though the decline moderated (-0.1% vs -0.4%). Inflation in education services and in restaurants and hotels was unchanged, at 1.0% and 2.7%, respectively. On a monthly basis, the consumer price index (CPI) increased by 0.2%, after a 0.2% fall in February.
