Slovakia Construction Output Rebounds in February

Construction output in Slovakia increased by 8.2% year-on-year in February 2026, rebounding from a 1.9% decline in January. This was the fourth-strongest February result since 2013, driven mainly by a solid upturn in domestic construction, which expanded by 9.5% after a 1% rise in the previous month.

The overall expansion was supported by a sharp acceleration in new construction (11.3% vs 2.3%), stronger building activity (10.3% vs -2.3%), and a return to growth in repairs and maintenance (1.8% vs -5%). Civil engineering output also increased by 7.2%, though this represented a moderation from 15.8%, with growth largely underpinned by projects on roads, motorways, and railway corridors.

By contrast, stronger domestic demand coincided with a slight decline in foreign activity, as construction output abroad fell by 1.6%, although this was a marked improvement from the 19.3% drop previously recorded. On a seasonally adjusted basis, total construction output rose by 5.4% month-on-month in February, bringing cumulative construction activity 3.5% above the level seen in the same period a year earlier.
