Silver Hovers Near 14-Year High

Silver prices remained above $39 per ounce on Wednesday, maintaining their proximity to the highest levels observed since 2011. This stability comes as a result of the softened US dollar and declining Treasury yields, which have continued to enhance the appeal of precious metals to investors. Market participants also responded to recent trade developments following US President Donald Trump's announcement of a new trade agreement with Japan. This agreement introduces a 15% tariff on Japanese exports to the United States. Additionally, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent indicated the likelihood of extending the current tariff truce with China, anticipating further discussions between US and Chinese officials slated to occur in Stockholm next week. Amidst these developments, President Trump reiterated his criticism of Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell, accusing him of maintaining excessively high interest rates and stating that Powell “will be out in eight months.” These remarks have further contributed to the uncertainty surrounding US monetary policy.
