In May 2025, Argentina experienced a 45.1% rise in retail sales compared to the same month the previous year, based on current prices. This marks a slowdown from the 66.9% increase observed in April. Most retail sectors showed decelerated growth; specifically, food courts and restaurants grew by 64.1%, down from 74.1%, and there was a noticeable dip in clothing, footwear, and leather goods, which grew by 32.9% compared to the previous 53.2%. Pharmacies and perfumeries saw a growth of 48.5%, down from 50.5%, while the toys sector expanded by 72%, compared to 80.6% earlier. Similarly, electronics and IT experienced a growth decline to 58.9% from 93.8%. Conversely, sectors such as leisure and recreation witnessed notable growth acceleration, improving to 141.1% from 123.6%, and bookstores and stationery shops saw an increase to 48.2% from the previous 42.3%. When adjusted for constant prices, retail sales showed a 6.2% year-on-year increase, compared to a 19.2% rise in April.
