Romania’s economy showed signs of stabilisation in the second quarter of 2026, as the pace of contraction eased on a year-over-year basis. According to the latest data updated on 09 October 2026, gross domestic product (GDP) fell by 0.2% compared with the same quarter a year earlier.
This marks a notable improvement from the previously reported 1.2% year-on-year decline for the second quarter of 2026. While output remains in negative territory, the smaller drop suggests that the downturn is moderating, with the latest figures pointing to a gradual easing of pressure on overall economic activity.
The data are based on a year-over-year comparison, where the current figure reflects the change in GDP in the second quarter versus the same quarter a year earlier, and the previous indicator measures the change in the prior reference period against its corresponding quarter a year before.
