Industrial production in Sweden increased by 5.8% year-on-year in August 2026, picking up from an upwardly revised 1.2% rise in July. The improvement was largely driven by the manufacturing sector, where output growth accelerated to 6.6% from 2.4% in the previous month.
Within manufacturing, production rose notably for wood products (7.1% vs -4.7%), chemical and pharmaceutical products (17.0% vs 12.7%), and other non-metallic mineral products (19.7% vs -5.3%). These gains more than offset contractions in the manufacture of coke and refined petroleum products (-22.9% vs -16.9%) and rubber and plastic products (-5.2% vs -10.6%).
Meanwhile, mining activity continued to decline but at a slower pace (-7.4% vs -9.0%), as output in other mines and quarries surged (43.9% vs 9.9%), while metal ore production fell more sharply (-14.9% vs -8.7%).
On a seasonally adjusted monthly basis, industrial output rose by 5.4% in August, rebounding from a downwardly revised 2.9% decrease in the previous month.
