Turkey’s industrial production fell by 1.9% year-on-year in August 2026, extending a marginally revised 0.2% decline in July and marking a fourth consecutive month of contraction. It was also the sharpest annual drop since January, as manufacturing output decreased by 2.5%, reversing a 0.3% increase recorded in the previous month.
The downturn in manufacturing was mainly driven by weaker output in beverages, tobacco products, wearing apparel, wood and wood products, printing, basic pharmaceuticals, and rubber and plastic products.
By contrast, mining and quarrying output grew for the first time in six months, rising 1.7% after a 4.1% contraction in July. The supply of electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning also recovered, increasing 1.3% following a 4.8% decline in the previous month.
On a monthly basis, overall industrial production fell 1.0% in August, after a marginally revised 0.9% decrease in July.
