Switzerland's consumer confidence index slipped to -36 in September 2026, down from -37 in the same month a year earlier, signaling a further deterioration in household sentiment and undershooting market expectations of -31. This was the weakest reading since June, driven largely by a sharper decline in the financial outlook, which fell to -31 from -28 in September the previous year. At the same time, perceptions of households’ past financial situation worsened slightly, with that index easing to -42 from -40. The indicator assessing whether it is a good time to make major purchases also decreased, to -27 from -25, indicating that households remain cautious about discretionary spending. These negative trends were partially offset by an improvement in the economic outlook, with that index improving to -43 from -53. On a monthly basis, overall confidence also weakened, down from -33 in August.
